Tent
Not that great for tent camping. A few spots in the area with trees looked nice but most sites are void of trees and shrubs. The volunteer at the gate was friendly and sociable (2024) so not the same as other reviews experienced.

Fabulous
We enjoyed our winter stay. Peaceful, friendly staff and people! Plenty of areas to walk.. pretty lake too. Low right now, will come up in spring soon they say. Paved sites with W/E only, fire pits, barbecue grills & covered picnic tables. Nice size sites, mostly. Some shaded some not-sites near water can be breezy but pretty.
Definitely on my repeat list-

Gate Attendant Gestapo / Why bother...?
We stayed a week. Gate people are straight up Nazis. I actually think they sit back and wait for you to get pissed off before opening the gate. Campground is nothing but scrub brush, stick-tites and tons of ants. Water is a limestone blueish color which is nice, (gets a star) but honestly, you feel like you’re on the ocean. Small boats and jet skis, forget it. They constantly drive around policing which made me feel like I’m in a prison camp. Too much bs to put up with to come back. Will be spending my $$$ elsewhere, I’m sure they’ll be happier.

Camper
The campground itself - like all USACE campgrounds - is great! Sadly, the volunteers at the gate are the exact opposite of great. The two we encountered, including a true a*hole who called himself Beecher, were the rudest people we have met in 4 years of RVing. Yes, we arrived two hours before our check-in time as we normally do and Beecher snottily informed us that, even though our reserved site was empty, we had to leave the park and find a place “up the road somewhere” to sit until our official check in time rolled around and “no” we could just wait somewhere inside the campground. When he did finally allow us to check in, we had to ask for a map of the campground, the equally nasty woman who works with him (his wife?) refused but did allow us to take a picture of “HER” map. These sad people deserve each other, but the people who enjoy the USACE campgrounds don’t deserve their nastiness. Their negative reviews go back many months. WHY ARE THEY STILL HERE???

Magical Without Harry Potter
Okay, “magical” may be overkill, but this is a great park. Very clean. Large campsites with covered picnic tables and an Extra Space for parking a vehicle. First time I’ve seen this feature. Many sites offer view of lake. We used #81 for a 30’ Winnebago. Haven’t used bathrooms although they’re quite clean. Decent roads for biking. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Must show Golden Pass and match it to name on reservation. Do NOT arrive before 3 PM. No early entry.

Drove out to check 11 sites to make sure our rig would fit since no pictures of sites on website. Camp gate told us no drive thru on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Should have this information included on website. We will never come here.

Rudest, Nastiest Camp Attendent I've Run
Arrived without reservation around 10am. Informed I HAVE to reserve online....and can't come back in until 3. She grudgingly let me come in to turn around....like many parks, the only place to turn around is one of the loops. Turned toward a loop and noticed a dump station. Figured, what the heck, will be registered soon and have 5 hours to kill until I can come back legally. Unpleasant gate lady had jumped in her pickup and followed me....seeing me dump, she pulled up beside me, jumped out of her truck and started screaming...honestly thought she was gonna try to kick my behind.
Sorry, COE, I'm NOT going to stay there now....or ever.

Great Park Amazing Bathhouse!
#12 was easy to back into, had a view of the lake and close to bathhouse! Electric, water, fire ring, cement pad and parking space, covered picnic table, grill and a big enough tree to provide shade....with park pass $13.....Bathhouse is clean , big showers, heater, plenty of hot water, bench and hooks in the stall. It's the middle of February so very quiet, enjoyable....whole park is neat and tidy. If you had kids lots of room to run and play..... I didn't have reservations, just drove up about 3 pm.

Great Secret On Canyon Lake
Would have been five stars but due to the lady at the front gate she will not let you and prior to 3 o’clock no exception. Other than that great park great facilities well-maintained.

Open Year Round
What you expect from a COE. Some people complained about "how they were treated", but after listening to them. They didn't follow restrictions. Areas closed because of flood damage and special events.

As advertised. No laundry, but flush toilets and showers. Only one loop open due to past flooding.
$25/nite with half of with National Parks senior or disabled pass. As in most of Texas, watch out for the stickers that are in the grass. Your pets will hate them.

Great place
Clean, and well maintained park. Wide spacing, paved pads and roads. Dump stations are good.
