camper
stayed there more times than i can count, tent, tent camper, trailer and now 25’ RV. generator zone is recommended with reservation, and the road to the Basin has two or three genuine hairpin turns. Make sure you have extra
blocks and wheel wedges since level sites are rare!

Big Bend Visitor
We stayed here four nights. It was first come first served, meaning no reservations at the time we visited. We got lucky and found a site for our small Class C RV. Finding a level enough site was a challenge. Most sites are best for tents only. The fresh water and dump station in the generator allowed area was very handy. The location was the best in all of Big Bend by a long way. The weather can be quite variable so keep an eye on the forecast. The camp hosts were very nice and helpful. The nearby national park visitor center had great info on spectacular hikes in the area. A great first visit to this park.

Camping For Campers
First off, let me say that this place is gorgeous. I'm not sure about what the other campgrounds in Big Bend have to offer, but I know I loved this location. It's very true you need a smaller rig to navigate your way up over the mountains and then down into the basin. I would strongly suggest checking your brakes, and heeding the warning signs that the specify maximum suggested rig lengths.
There are no hookups, but there is freshwater. The dumping/fresh water RV filling location is designed to supply the passenger side. There are plenty of freshwater spouts scattered around the campground.
This place offers beautiful views and a good hike can provide some arguably even better. There are no showers, but the bathrooms are on the cleaner side. There is a separate "generator zone". Every site has a good view thanks to the tiered design. The closest gas is at "Panther Junction".
The older couple at the Visitor Center were amazingly helpful. I highly recommend this place.

If You Are Small ....
This seems to be a neat place to tent camp and a few spaces are large enough for a pop-up trailer. We checked it out with just my truck, but did not stay here. It is tight! So the three star rating really does not apply from my perspective. Refer to the park map on vehicle size limits for the road in .... tight switchbacks and steep grades!
