Posted No Overnight Parking
. . . however, the Customer Service desk said I could park in the back corner behind Discount Tire—which is right in front of the No Overnight Parking sign. There were already a half dozen others camped when I arrived at 8pm.

Walmart Parking
I have found some Walmarts post No parking but they want you to come in the store so they can tell you where to Park. They try to keep you in a quiet area and not a noisy area of the parking lot.

Stayed overnight in my car.
Overnight is allowed.
There was 1 RV, 4 vans and quite a few cars staying overnight.
Security came around about 11 PM and made all the obvious overnighters in vans move over to the parking rows closest to Discount Tire.
There were more overnighters when I woke up in the morning.

No Overnight parking
There are signs saying “No Overnight Parking” posted all over the parking lot.

Overnighters Welcome
It was explained to me that Walmart does not own the lot. Which means that the choice is not at Walmart’s discretion.
The company that does own the lot, does allow overnighters, but it seems they clean certain parts of the lot now and again. So someone may ask you to move a few spaces away.

Yes To Overnight Parking.
On April 12th, 2019 I was sitting in my truck in the middle of the lot eating a snack.
A very friendly security officer knocked on my window at about 9pm and asked if I was going to spend the night. He said I was welcome to do so, but asked me to park in the rear corner of the the lot where a few RVs were parked.
He actually suggested that I sleep there instead of driving on because a snow storm was coming in.

The actual Walmart parking lot allows overnight parking whereas the shopping plaza parking lot does not allow overnight parking

Unfortunately
I don't know the reason for the city of Durango not to allow overnight parking at Walmart but is unfortunately. When I don't know the area, I like to stay at Walmart for one night while I find a place to stay.
There are no campgrounds with suitable roads close to town.
