Relaxing And Well Kept Campground
We have been going to Purgatory for years. I’ve always driven by this campground and never stopped. Finally deciding to give it a try, I am very impressed. Everything is very well-kept. The staff is very helpful. Laundry room was very clean. Loved the narrow gauge train going right in front of our motorhome. Only wish we could’ve walked down to the river so my husband could fish, otherwise really nice. Also, I love the trolley that takes you to town. Highly recommend this place.

Loved The Train!
They have tent camping and RV with full hookups and for cheaper some with only water and electric, so a dump station is provided. Washer and dryers are community, so it's nothing fancy. Restroom and showers look good.

Nice Park, Nice Hosts
I like it when the hosts are on site and actively engaged. When we rolled up at 5:30pm, there were four people in the office. Bathroom was very clean!!! Sites were gravel, decently spaced. Some road noise but I would definitely stay here again.

Very Nice Family Run Campground
This is a very nice campground. It’s adjacent to Rt. 550, so it’s easy to access, but since the campground is set down from the highway there’s no road noise. Pretty views of mountains and pastures. The Durango Steam Train goes by a couple of times a day. It’s fun to watch it go by and wave. The train doesn’t run at night so no problem with it interrupting sleep. Close to downtown Durango and the Animas River walk/bike trail. Staff is friendly and check-in went smoothly. Interior roads are crushed stone and level. The corners are tight, but do-able with care in our 40 foot motorhome. Sites are a decent size with a crushed stone landing pad and grassy area with a picnic table. There are mature trees in the park for shade. The park is very well maintained. We had a pull-through full hookup and water, sewer, and electric worked with no issues. WiFi was good. T-mobile was weak but useable. We enjoyed our stay very much and will be back next spring.

We Liked It A Lot
We have a small trailer so we didnt have issues with space that some reviewers mention..we got lucky and got an edge lot and it was great...nide view of river and field and mountain...no access to river but nice to see it...one of few rv parks where we enjoyed sitting in front of trailer...most rv parks feel like an apartment complex to me...there is a walk to showers and the laundry rooms locks up at 7pm, but not the end of the world..lot of shade trees and park does good job of misting driveways to prevent dust and it really helped compared to parks that dont do this..wifi for us was so so at our outer edge spot, even with exrternal antenna, but we had just enough wifi to do low quality basic zoom meetings...if your meeting the boss you may need to be closer to office to ensure strong wifi...we enjoy longer road bike rides and had a nice ride from park to the Walmart on outside of town(about 20mile roundtrip)..bike path and road path very nice with few rougher patches.

Tight
Don't understand the reviews? Each site is gravel, pull in every site different direction, slideouts about 5ft. From next site, both off same pedistall. No one picks up dog poop.

Cute Park, Great Wifi
The park is close to downtown, right on a trolley stop so you can take that into town to avoid paying to park. Kept very clean, level sites and great wifi. No cable, but satellite and streaming friendly

We love this campground! Very clean. Laundry facility is great. The most spectacular part is the view and the train in the summer. Our kids loved running down to watch it roll by!

Very Friendly
Spaces are tight. Very few satellite friendly spaces. No cable TV. Wi-Fi was excellent. Very nice staff. All in all a nice place for a few days.

Great Place
We stayed in July 2017. Just loved it. Spots are kinda close but it was nice and tree lined. People really friendly. Beautiful scenery. Will be back.

Beautiful Location, Great Staff
Welcoming staff, clean restroom/shower with plenty of hot water and nice laundry area with plenty of washer/dryers. Convenient trolley service across the street to get into town without thinking about parking. Site was pretty level and entire campground was clean and well maintained- will definitely stay here again!

Our place In Durango
We have stayed here four times. Yes, the campsites are close and it's all gravel, but it's shaded and they have a good dog walking area that's all grass. The narrow gauge train comes by four times a day so many campers sit out and take photos. The trolley comes by regularly and doesn't cost much.

Not Dog Friendly
Nice campground, accommodating in regards to finding a place for you. We stayed in our 40 foot motorhome for 4 nights. The "dog area" is between the RV parking and railroad tracks/tent camping. It's not fenced unfortunately. We pick up after our dogs and did walk them down by the outer most perimeter which they considered the tent area. I let one dog off leash so she could run and she didn't potty or bother anyone. Had an park employee zoomed down to reprimand us. Nothing said dogs Not Past This Point. We did not argue but returned to our MH. Would I stay here again? Probably not. I don't like the Gestapo attitude towards dogs.

Good Access to Durango
Good location, nice people. My only complaint would be the crowding of the sites. Also hurt my back opening the bear proof dumpster lid.

Clean ..great bathrooms & showers...friendly staff. Pretty views of river & countryside. Durango train goes through campground for photo op. Another great feature: Trolley picks up at campground driveway. No need to fight traffic or parking downtown..Riding rates--$1 / 50cents (2017) for Seniors. We would stay here again

Pleasant, Friendly, Good Price
The personnel are friendly and very helpful to us RV newbies. The trolley into town, stops right across the street. Very convenient! Full hookups and a nice view was the cheapest price on our trip. Not sure why they have a $$$$ rating... Don't believe the previous naysayers.
