Cross It Off The List

Another one we won't come back to. The good: beautiful scenery, very wooded area, definitely country. WiFi was ok, but a few of course. The bad: there are NO 50 amp sites available and almost no full hookups. Sites are not level, steep drop offs and difficult to navigate. The hills to get to the full hookup section are really steep, good luck towing up them. They turned off the water with no notice to work on the line and it was off and on for our whole stay. Ranger at the guardhouse knew nothing about it. Absolutely no cell service. Store was pretty empty. Overall an unhappy camper. We'll find another spot if we pass through this area again.

Not Renewing 1000 Trails Membership

I've been a member of 1000 trails since 2008. I've seen the quality of the parks in the south east dwindle over time. More and more permanent sites. Where is the fun in that? We paid a lot of money to be part of "the club" and that was supposed to go to facility improvement. This is still FCFS, how antiquated is that? We went to check out this great big park only to find out maybe a third are full hook up. We arrived on a Thursday to help get a decent spot for the weekend to find out that only 30 amp w/e sites were available and were told to limit our electricity use as they were having issues with breakers tripping. We drove around some very tight paths with our 40 foot 5th wheel only to find one that was partially suitable. After needing to add 5 inches of blocking to the front, we decided to just head back home 90 min away. Staff was friendly and the pool looked nice. Easy access dump station on the way out. Just watch the low clearance to the right of campground exit.

Ok. But Barely.

First off the good- bathrooms and laundry facilities are clean and well kept. The staff is nice and friendly. The park is filled with full timers. There are NO, I repeat ZERO spots on the lake for vacationers. Husband renamed the campground “Thousand Lifers” We found a full hookup site on phase 2 that was decently flat but few trees. Had to put laundry in the truck and take to phase 1 area to wash. There was no firewood available from the “trading post” and not much else either. It’s more of an old folks/retiree breakfast cafe than a camp store (the biscuits are phenomenal tho). We won’t be going back. Might give another Thousand Trails campground a try but if this is a sample of what they’re like, will avoid them in the future. Also ZERO phone service. Had to drive to the top of a hill to make a phone call.

Could Not Be More Disappointed!!

We booked this reservation a month out through our Thousand Trails membership for Memorial Day Weekend. We were traveling with 2 adults, 3 kids (6 and under), and 80 pound dog, a 33ft 5th wheel. In addition, the grandparents were meeting us for the weekend traveling from AL. We knew it was a FCFS campground so we made sure to get there close to the checkin time. When we pulled up to check in, we were given the most unuseful map possible to find our slot without escort to navigate through the congested area. This alone is a huge liability. The permanent residents were parked everywhere making the paths extremely narrow. There was one slot available that had full hook but only had 30 AMP hook up. This slot was covered with poison ivy/oak and had large ant hills everywhere. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE AND DON’T RISK IT. We stayed at Fall Hollow Resort which was very nice and accommodating.

Worst Camping Spot I have Been To

We usually stay in state parks around the Memphis area. Want to go a little farther. The website made this place look amazing. Hate I did not read reviews first. Small full sun sites with zero room. The only good thing was the staff. Park ranger was nice when he pulled up and realized I was unhappy with the grounds. No fire pit, tables missing in half the spots, steep drop offs. Nice bathrooms... beware...

Disappointed

Full timers have taken all the lakefront spots, and the only thing available is wide open spots without shade. We stayed in Phase 1, the dump station on the way out was spewing sewage like a geyser. It is also way out in the middle of nowhere.

1000 Trails Member

Well not the best 1000 trails we have stayed in. Electric seems ok, we use 50 amp and full hook ups. Level sites right across from the water are fine. The wifi is on and off. Mostly off. We are in a 37 Tiffin. Plus points, nice little lake for kayaking. Quiet at night. View sitting here is nice looking at the lake. Negative points, goose poop EVERYWHERE! If you have dogs or kids walking or playing expect to be cleaning them up when they come in. Poop in the grass, the road and the water. It's really gross. No dog run area. No tv stations. Note: apparently my dogs love goose poop and walking them has been a challenge. Some kids are swimming in the lake but I wouldn't. It is mucky.

NOT FOR FAMILY CAMPING OR VACATIONS

This place is full of permanent residents, it looks like a mobile home trailer park for campers, the permanent residents have all the lake front spots taken, the only spots left were way to small and unlevel for me,

Full Timers Paradise

This Thousand Trails park definitely caters more to their "full timers" and do not allow vacationers the opportunity to camp on the water's edge. Some type of access to the lake would have been nice. We stayed in Phase 2 and the closest laundry facility was in Phase 1 (not within walking distance for those who do not tow a vehicle ). If you work while camping, internet is not guaranteed and we couldn't pick up local channels with antenna, or signal with satellite, so no news, sports, etc. The park is clean, as most Thousand Trails are, but if not for being "free" to park here, we wouldn't have stayed.

Is This A KOA?

Wow. What a disaster. Roads are beyond poor. Electric service needs upgrading. Constantly trips the breaker. Wifi is off and on rendering it useless. Water is hit or miss. Had to hook up to a site two rows over. Was charged a resort fee. Really? Worst campground we have ever stayed at in over 30 years of camping. I don't know why KOA does not pull their franchise. It is an embarassment to the brand. You are better off in a Walmart parking lot.
