Beautiful Northern New Mexico, But ....
This campground is in some of the most stunningly beautiful, high altitude country in New Mexico. Facilities are in need of repair. Some of the sites are level and all are gravel. It is 9500 feet elevation so it is cool or cold at night. A number of the sites have holding pens for horses. There is no cell service, power, even AM radio is iffy during the day and nonexistent at night. But about 15 miles of the road from Costilla NM is gravel, washboarded, with tight turns. A portion of the washboard road is on steep grades so the drive is slow. When it is wet, it is an adventure in driving. It is a long drive for supplies or fuel, so bring what you need! An alternate access from US64 south of Raton NM is about the same distance, but is all gravel for 25 miles.
