Nice Small Riverside Campground
This listing has a Forest Service symbol, but it's a state fish and game site - not Federal. All the forest service campgrounds in the area were full and we happened across this place. We stayed 3 days & it was very peaceful. Each day a few sites opened up mid-day. There is a beautiful flat water river with two access points and locals tube and paddle here. There are tent sites, back-in sites, and pull through sites. Our site was on the river though separated by a thin strip of woods. At night we could hear coyotes. There are a lot of people who drive through looking around and kicking up dust, but that's the only negative. There are no hookups, only a central hand pump for water and no dump station. Prices are cheaper for residents and those with state fishing license (who have already contributed to the up keep).

Great place to stop for dry camping. Arrived on a Sunday in July and had several rv sites to choose from. $18 a nite for out of state with no MT fishing license.

Next To The Bitterroot
Good straight road off the highway. Sites are level, large and widely spaced, mostly back-in but the first two are pull-through. You have your choice of sites next to or away from the river, and in the trees or in the open. The water spigot is a large, green hand-pump to the left as you enter (there may be others). No mosquitos at the end of September. Far enough off the highway (0.9 miles) that you don't hear it. Homes are located between the campground and the highway. The gate is locked to incoming traffic at 10pm. The creek next to the campground is nice but it's only a small offshoot of the Bitterroot River which is a 300' hike to the east.

Nice, but mosquitos!!
Right by the river, but hard to enjoy because the mosquitos were HORRIBLE. Get ready to bathe in DEET. Had a pit toilet, but never found the water spigot.
