Busy campground in the fall. Beautiful area with nice trails. Restrooms/showers were decent but need some maintenance. Some sites are level, others have a slight to moderate grade. Latrines are available in late season.

Beautiful
First time camping here and it was beautiful. Fresh air up on the bluff above the Mississippi River. Trees were almost done dropping leaves. Apart from the cold weather and crazy wind it was an excellent weekend. Very cheap to stay here. Only electric hook up no water at sites, only at a hydrant to fill up. Some of the camping spots are a little awkward to back into but once you’re in there’s nice picnic table pads and fire pits. You definitely need a spotter to help park or you might fall off the pad. There’s a lot of hiking and Tons of trees! Bathrooms were very clean but no heat in them so it would be cold to shower this time of year haha. I will for sure make it back again next year! I would like to see it when it’s green.

Great state park campground! Might be the best in Iowa. Beautiful cliff views of Mississippi River valley. Excellent hiking trails through park, winding along spring fed waterfalls in valleys, up to grass meadow ridges to great spots overlooking the Miss. River valley to stop and have a lunch break. Some paths have effigy mounds nearby. Surprised that only a few people were on such nice trails. Campsites are generally shady, mostly level, clean and maintained. Electric hook-up only, but easy access to the fresh water fill and also the dump station. Best thing is camp facilities were kept very clean, nice roomy showers, everything is well maintained. The campground host was very personable, friendly and helpful, and is a great representative for the state park system. Perhaps the one downside is that the summertime bugs can be significant, so be prepared. But remember this is a forest environment with lots of water nearby and bugs love it.
