Primitive Camping
Small challenging spots for parking campers, but this time of year, great spot visiting the dunes. The night sky is equally impressive, bear box for your food, never saw bears, just deer & rabbits Remember no electricy, and fill up water before (we didn't )setting the camper up :) $10 with national parks pass woo-hoo!

Nice
We stayed here one night. There are a few larger sites but most are quite small and was challenging to find a good back in spot for our 27 ft airstream. There are pull through spots but many leave you with your door to the roadside. No hookups. Fire-rings and picnic tables as well as bear boxes at each site. We took the trail to the dunes at sunset and stayed out until past dark. The skies are gorgeous with stars and dunes are exceedingly quiet. Nice quiet and dark place to camp. Store was closed the first week of October. Leashed dogs welcome at campground and on dunes.

Very nice campground. Some sites more level than others. Great views of the sand dunes from some sites. Hiking trails to dunes from campground. We stayed in loop number 2 with a beautiful view of the valley and dunes. Our site felt mostly private. No soap in bathrooms. No showers. Nice gentleman running the small but adequate camp store.

Beautiful Views
Nice bathrooms with water/dump station in the park. Ranger talks and events advertised at the Welcome Center. Campsites are walkable to the Dunes. The sites aren’t too deep or long for larger campers without creative parking. Our 21 ft camper fit well. There were many sites that are pull through along the side of the road, so know what type of site you’re reserving. Those may be best for tent camping. Some sites like this you park and walk up or down steps to the flat pad. All sites are dry with a metal picnic table and fire ring. Rent sand boards or sleds ($21 return by 7pm) from Oasis (store outside park entrance) and take a hot shower there to rinse off the sand ($6).
