The campground was just OK. It is located well above Rampage Reservoir, a considerable hike and several hundred feet drop in elevation. The surrounding area and some of the campground was burned over a few years ago in a wildfire, so the area is very open and the foreground view is dominated by tree snags. Also, don’t camp too near the “sweet smelling toilets”. Not!
The worst part of the experience is the access road, which winds up through subdivisions above Woodland Park. Some segments of the road are very steep. But the worst was the last 6 miles of native surface road, which gives a whole new meaning to the term “washboard”. Anything over 5 mph will shake your rig apart. Do not stay here if you plan to go in and out to experience the local area.
