Stayed July 2020. There are 3 loops. We wanted trees and some privacy and stayed in the older area which was so run down, super unlevel, and ridiculously laid out that it shouldn't allow rvs. We moved to the newer area which was essentially an open field with no privacy, but had electric and water. The remaining loop had a few decent spots but most rigs were just parked along the roadway with little outdoor space. Liked that there was laundry but 2 washers and 1 working dryer made it hard to get in to use. Dump station available. Disappointing campground, although the rest of the park is nice with lots to do and see, including a tram down the mountain and intense hiking trails. Will not return.

What a beautiful setting for one of the best RV / Camping areas West Virginia has to offer. Close to everything WV, wildlife abound, fishing hiking, rafting, canoeing, biking, motorcycling, rock climbing, golf, restaurants, lodging, and yet, WV state parks are letting this gem of an opportunity pass it by. The RV site's need a drastic infusion of $$ which it is my belief, will be returning 10 fold. Spend a day watching Rv'ers try and negotiate the tight spots with little 30 foot bumper tow's, parking cars in the grass, etc., etc., all because the spaces are so small and the park has been neglected. Make the investment and it will be returned over and over. Heck, the small town of Hinton and Athens would even benifit from an RV park expansion/upgrade. There are plenty of park workers flying by and all seem to accept standard as the norm. Go big Pipestem, your sitting on a good mine. No thanks needed. Wakeup and just did it, the workers who live here are deserving.
