Great Park
We camped ocean side and the campground is great.
Cost is $35 to camp and $10 admission for 2 people per day.
Cell service is great, 4bars, 5G.
Camp sites are paved, level and spacious. Each site has a covered picnic table. Easy access to the beach.

In Need Of Investments
Bay side is quieter, ocean side quite dirty. Beach was very bad when we were there, garbage and debris all over the place. They don't clean very often.
Will not go again.

So-So
We camped at a beach site and I was a little disappointed in the condition of the park, in particular the cleaning off the restroom and showers. I never saw the host and the restrooms were not cleaned during our 4 day stay.
There are three sections of beach camping and the first section has the newest bathroom.
The park is shutting down in early summer for renovations till 2022.

Better The 2nd Time Around
We stayed bayside last year- not impressed. Oceanside this year and love it. Site 12 is really nice with a lot of privacy on the covered picnic table side. 3 bars of AT&T. We can see the ocean just above the top of the dunes from our rig. Glad we gave this park a second chance. Beach is clean.

Too Close For Comfort
We could only book a bay side site. Not my idea of state park camping. A close view of houses across the water, tight campsites and the bathroom facilities are not in this ring. No vegetation at all between sites or fire rings. The sites are too small so fire rings are across the road in the communal area. The beach sites may be nicer but I would not stay here again.

Galveston Island is a really neat destination and we loved the beach here at this park - practically private. But the park is not so great. We opted for beachside for more privacy and easy access to the beach. However, all the sites are in a row with no trees in between so not much privacy. The bayside ones looked worse as they are in a tight circle! When making a reservation online, they don’t tell you that park entry fees are additional $5 PER PERSON PER DAY! So what we thought was a $25 spot was actually $35 a night, and for that price you’d expect better amenities. There is electric and water at sites but no sewer. There is a dump station though. No coin laundry or sinks. The bathrooms seem like they haven’t been properly cleaned in a long time; the men’s one smelled and none of the showers in the woman’s worked properly.

Baths In Disrepair
Make sure to enter beach side to register. Signage on Bayside is not helpful. Back in sites are good but angle requires passenger side angle, which is awkward. Bath house at last cluster is in need of work. Understandable that likely no funds due to Harvey. Wish gulf coast parks would try to control thorny grass as very hard on dogs.

One Of Our Favorites
We usually make it here at least once a year. We always stay on the beach side. Very nice and quiet park. Beach is not crowded here like public beaches on the seawall. Only minutes away from attractions though. Great place to visit.

Galveston Island State Park
I stayed on the inner side of the camp grounds, there is two sides to the campgrounds, so if you want near the beach make sure you look at the map right lol. The people were very laid back, everyone was friendly, easy to find, clean showers, I would come back here if I had the chance.

Clean park with tons of things to see, wetlands, prairies, and the beach. Clean facilities and sites. Only complaint is the tease in price, the bayside camps are $15 a day...sounds great...but wait, there's a $5 entry fee per person. Understandable...but if you camp multiple days, you have to pay the entry fee again...why? I've already entered. Not a big issue, the park is worth it, just factor this in with your group.

Great Beach Adventure
Less than a minute walk to an almost private beach. Grills are rusty. Campsite asphalt cracked and slightly unlevel, but very easy to back into with a big rig. We did not use the facilities.
