Nice Large Sites
There are two campgrounds, one has cement sites with easy back-ins, which is where we camped. In this campground there is a lot of space between sites. The public restroom /showers/laundry are well kept, but they are not in the center of the campground so some may chose to drive rather than walk. To get onto the base it is best to come in the South Gate, which is easy to get to from TX 358 where there is an exit just for the NAS. GPS took us to the North Gate; this is NOT the gate to go in. The North Gate may not be open and backing out would be tricky. Earlier in the day we called the front office for directions to the office and what they told us was cryptic at best and made worse because the base street signs are often unreadable. It took some searching to find the campground office which is in an MWR building.

Very Nice Campground
Great option for military/retirees in the Corpus area, concrete pads, full hook ups. Be prepared for a constant 15-20mph wind which is normal for coastal areas and the roads in the park are overdue for repair, but it's a great place to stay for the lowest price around, thank you US Navy/Military!

A great place for active duty or retired to camp, best time is from April to June, and September to November. Great fishing at three sites on base and close to all surrounding museums and parks. WiFi not so great you will need some sort of booster to get a good signal, Tv reception very go for RV antenna. Good cell phone reception AT&T most of the time 4 bars. Base has base exchange, gas station, dump site and full hook ups. Easy in and out parking of small to big rigs. It’s a great place to camp for security and a piece of mind.

Looking forward to coming here again! The ladies at check-in are friendly and helpful. The campground Is located near restaurants and shopping. I particularly like the space between campsites. Not crowded at all even though it seems every space is taken. It is quiet here except for the wind which blows constantly and is occasionally strong enough to shake our fifth wheel. The campground is located near the water making evening walks along the sea wall enjoyable.

Such A View
Two campgrounds here. Full hookups, quiet too. Many birds included the crested Caracara. Bx, commissary were very nice. Looking forward to returning someday. P.S. it is no longer called Shields.
