The people that work there are great. Everything is super clean. Some new buildings have been added last winter. Can catch fish from shore. Did I say the people were great. The bad part it is hard to make a reservation. That needs to be fixed. The movie The revenant was based on Hugh Glass who was attacked here by a bear and he was left for dead, he crawled his way to the nearest fort. Also on the tallest hill to the south General Custers men carved a 7th Cav. symbol into the hillside.

Shadehill
Drove thru the campground 7.22.2017. It was to early to settle in for the night but i wish i would have stayed. What a beautiful well kept park. It is spotless, plenty of shade. New bathhouse. Plenty of available spots. This definately is a gem in the middle of nowhere. The reserviour is huge. Of all the SD parks I have been in, this is by far the best.
The big problem is getting there. The SD highway 73 going south and north is almost un-useable. I would recommend driving in the ditch. I'm sure it would be far smoother. They even have patches over the patches. South Dakota needs to spend some dollars here. I definately would stay here in the future. But will not because of the road.
So sad. What a nice place. This place is a 5 star. But the road kills it.
