My family has been coming here almost yearly for 20+ years. We’ve tented here, rented cabins, stayed in the lodge, and most recently, we’ve taken our campers here. Palmer Gulch is a vacation we all look forward to! There’s so many activities for kids, and the campground is close to Mt. Rushmore and Keystone. We also enjoy the nightly musicians in front of Grapes and Grinds. The campground is rather spendy, but it’s an expense we are willing to pay for a fun-filled vacation!

5 Nighter
Visited from TX. Opted for the deluxe sites with concrete patio. Glad we did as several down from us poor guys were in the mud. Since it was after Labor Day weekend a lot of stuff was closed but we still had a nice time. Pool was still open. Playground is nice for the little ones. Paved roads were nice around the park. Extremely close to Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Campground was full and busy but didn’t feel like a zoo to us. Store had pretty much everything you need if you forgot something. Met several nice folks from SD and heck even one family from CA :) Here’s a tip that we are glad we found. If you are going to Rapid City or Deadwood, you can take the dirt road out the back of the campground to an intersecting road (Pink Cabin I believe) near candyland and saves a lot of time from having to go back to the main highway. It was a little pricey but don’t have any regrets.

Alright
Alright campground, lots for kids to do, sites are very close and can be difficult to get I to. Would recommend getting a site up in the woods for a little more space. Very very busy. Nice and close to Mt Rushmore. Friendly staff

Great
Our first site was awful and a swamp so a KOA manager graciously moved us which turned out to be a huge upgrade. Full hook ups worked great and the bathrooms closest to us were always clean. Our cell service was nil and the WiFi was bad.... but this was a family vacation and I enjoyed being disconnected. There was always an event going on for the kids and hot food was always available if we didn’t want to cook. I did see some sites that looked less desirable but we lucked out. Only issue is the mass amount of vehicle traffic causes some serious dust by every afternoon. This place is NOT a romantic get away... but if you have kids and want to stay busy it’s great.

There is a lot to do here which is really nice if that is what you are looking for. Our site was very hilly which is a big problem for us. The showers were not as clean as I’d expect from a KOA.

Zoo
No privacy. It's like a zoo. Spaces are crammed in everywhere with no space in between. It's huge. I'd prefer a Walmart parking lot.

Great Canpground
We had a blast. Great amenities to keep the family entertained. Loved that they had a rodeo in the campground. Beautiful area and close to Mount Rushmore. Only down side was the campground has no WiFi and zero cell phone signal.

Nice KOA
A bit expensive but they offer a lot of activities if you’re seeking that. Rental vehicles and off road vehicles available. Quiet at night. Usual tight spaces- some near tent areas feel more open. Shuttle service to evening program at Mt Rushmore is a plus. Fee for school bus ride, but worth it to avoid traffic and night time driving. Would stay again.

Great Location, Ok Camping, No WiFi
Very close to Rushmore and Keystone. All the amenities on site. Expensive. They advertise WiFi, but it can’t handle the summer crowds. Maybe if there are only a few people there it would work. We were unable to use it our entire stay.

Was a rip off sites were not level, bathrooms were dirty and not maintained. Showers were not easily accessible need side walk thru campsites(safety). Cost of all things were high lunch, breakfast etc. Web page misleading about shuttle to mt rushmore again there was a fee. Would not recommend this campground and would never use again. They know very little of campers are only there once so they gouge everyone

Wifi and phone service horrible. Campground was great but being a business person needing wifi at least made the week bad.

Very Nice KOA.
For ppl doing vacations, this is a very nice KOA. Lots of cabins and RV spots. RV spots are very close together however... keep that in mind. Lots of activities for the kids, VERY close to Mt. Rushmore. A good family campground!

Best KOA Ever
Welcomed by beautiful nature. Nice registration area. The staff was very nice and helpful. The front area has a little town and horse stable. Nice shower houses. So much for everyone to do. Fishing, water slides, swimming, volleyball, jumpy castles, playground, bikes and carts to rent, horse back riding ( for additional fee), and so much more I'm sure I'm forgetting. It was wonderful to get away from the craziness of life with no cell service at the camp. ( Cell reception is fine 5 miles up or down the hill from the camp) Everywhere you look is beautiful. Our whole family can't wait to go back.

Beautiful Place
Great place with huge potential. I'm sure it is great in the summer when all of their activities are open and available. They drop the ball in the off season. Comfort station #2 looked very new however not clean. The signs say it is cleaned multiple times a day, but the floors, showers, sinks, and mirrors were dirty. Even dead flies on the sink counter tops and I don't mean 2, I mean a few dozen. Should be half price if nothing is available. One great thing was their store! They had pretty much anything you could possibly need!

If you are looking for Wifi or cell phone service, forget it! Don't bother spending money for premium sites, not worth it.

5 Miles From Rushmore
This park has everything. 2 pools, stores, horse back riding, splash park, water slide and so much more. We paid to stay and could of enjoyed ourselves just at the park alone. It close to everything. Reserve really early, we have a 37ft trailer and it was not easy to navigate some spaces. They have a ton of great sites we just got put in the back. It was wooded and very close to the next site. Overall it allowed the kids to have a great time. They have several bath houses which still didn't seem to be enough. WIFI was only in one location, no cell service however they have several free courtesy phones.
