Mandatory Rsvp.gov $8 access fee
No legal tender accepted! Nice staff assisting our walk-in for a few nights. Required to access rsvp.gov for an open site on-line or phone call and credit card. This is a real problem a government campground does not accept cash for services.

Popular Historic Mountain Campground
Situated along the fabled fishing of the Davidson River in the beauty of the Pisgah National Forest, this campground is widely known and in high demand during peak seasons. Access is easy with nicely paved roads, with several level loops to choose from plus some that extend up into the forest. Large trees dominate, with scattered open areas, mostly level sites, but limited restroom/shower facilities. An historic chapel, lots of hiking, tons of wildlife including deer and bear. Current staff a little picky. Expect rain and cool temps year round. Recreation nearby is extensive and unique, including Sliding Rock, the Cradle Of Forestry, Blue Ridge Parkway and more. No camp store, but close by Pisgah Forest and Brevard offer every shopping, outfitting and food choice you desire. Negatives? Most sites have no power or water, and absolutely no sewer, cable TV, or WiFi, and recent tree cutting has left unsightly debris and weedy undergrowth to take over.

Downed Trees
Update 6/11/21. I had heard it was under new mgt, so I drove in and asked the guards to tour the park and they said no. I would be allowed to walk it but not drive it. The park is spread out so I said no. Really isn't my kind of campground. The tree slash on the Sycamore Circle was unattractive. The Sycamore circle of campsites has only one toilet each for the men and women, which seems inadequate since the sites aren't full service. The campsites are large and can easily host a camper and tent. It is centrally located in an area with a lots of attractions. They had a well designed dumpsite too.

Too Many Downed Trees And Debris
Apparently they have experienced a major root rot issue with the pines in the cg. The trees were all cut down and very little clean up performed. It is particularly worse at the first loop in the right. While at your site, you’re staring at nothing but debris and downed trees. The hosts were all very nice. It’s a great location, close to Brevard. Unless your site is on the outermost edge closest to river, to get to the river you have to cut thru other people’s sites. It would be nice if they would make trails instead for accessing the river at various places.

Nice Campground
Nice campground, always full in the summer, best to make reservations. Cost 22 dollars for non electric site and 10 dollars for dump use and fill up with good drinking water. There is always someone at the gate.

Can't Beat The Cost
We really enjoyed our stay at Davidson! It is very convenient to area waterfalls, sliding rock and Brevard. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. The sites are spacious, clean and flat. The bathrooms are okay and about what you would expect from a NPS camp ground. There are some great walking trails right on the river. It is close to shopping and civilization, but far enough to not hear too much city noise. The only downside is no electric hook up for tent sites. We like to rough it, but electric is helpful for our family. It would not stop us from going again, however.

Our Honey Hole
We have been going here for years. We have left other campgrounds and went here. It’s our home away from home. Clean warm bathrooms. Sites are secluded and private. Lots of biking and hiking trails. Lots of stuff to do. Great trout fishing and tubing. Everything is close by. We will go here at least once every year. Love it!!

Great location in the mountains. Very clean and well kept. Bathrooms have hot water and are very clean. Nice flat paved roads for kids to bike. Only real negative is that there are very few electric hookups. Reserve them well in advance if you want one.
