A Hidden Gem
Well it was hidden all right but worth all the detours and confusing road ynorthern gate is from the detour from route 75 from the south. So if you are coming in from any direction other than the south, know that you need to come in from the north west. Don't come in east from Altura. Aside from that we loved it. Quiet, clean, naturally beautiful. The night skies are Dark and beautiful. We saw the Milkie way

Great SP. Updated Facilities
Both campgrounds have new very nice shower/bathroom facilities. Even the vault toilets are newer and clean.. Sites are large and nicely maintained. This is best MN state park in southeastern MN. Good variety of hiking trails and decent swimming beach. Downside is cell service is very spotty. Could not get service(verizon) from our site and wifi only at office. So if that is a must have for you, you may need another plan.
Could use a playground for kids.

Hidden Treasure
If you like to hike, this is your park! Well maintained & marked Trails climb the bluffs, so they're a challenge at times. Lots of water & shade in the valley. Small pond to swim in with beautiful picnic grounds! No bugs! Newer Campground has large grassy sites with electrical power & some shade along with New bathhouses! Also, in the new campground, there are group campsites arranged in a circle with a large picnic shelter in the middle, great idea for families camping together. New Camping Cabins too, very nice! Original campground will be renovated in 2018, but is shady, grassy with large mostly flat sites near the river. Clean, well maintained park! Great River Ridge Bike Trail is nearby for 20 miles of paved biking through prairie & farmland, pretty in the evenings!
