BLM Free Camping
After Holdridge rd. turnoff you can follow the canal road south 1.5 miles into free BLM camping areas. Avoided paying minimum $40-per-week fee here. Huge desert sites. You can still easily bike-ride to nearby hot springs. Enjoyed solitude and several military fly by's. Prepare for some mosquitoes.

Fantastic Free
Drive south from the Hot Springs on Holdridge Rd. Starts with rough pavement then sort of sand. Drive aprox 1-2m until you see the 14 day camping signs. Explore the area; Find a dune or bush & set up camp. Absolutely No Services! Be Prepared. Farmers use propane ‘poppers’ to scare birds from newly seeded fields.
Stargazing, dune hiking or trail biking or walking. Slight din of Hwy noise but actually very quiet area. Of course there are coyote ‘choirboys’.
