Little Used
When we rolled into Winthrop without plans on a busy summer weekend, a waiter at a local restaurant recommended heading up the forest service road. I think we actually camped a little below the flat campground. It was late and we needed a place asap. There were only 3 other people camped at this large and wide open campground. We couldn't see the river from our site, but it lulled us to sleep, and a quick jaunt in the morning had us washing on its sandy shores.
Not a particularly pretty site, but it was a quiet and semi-private in an area where hotels and popular campsites were fully booked well in advance.
