Disappointing Campsite, H20 Questionable
I would only come back here if I was in the Oak Haven camping area. Unfortunately we were stuck in trailerpark land in #10. Not only was our outdoor space shared with our neighbor forcing us to hang out in a parking spot, the barking dogs, overwhelming campfire smoke, and traffic noise made us want to leave. Since there was construction, they put an entire boyscout troup one of the other loop nearby making our stay very noisy. The water is questionable since it smells and tastes bad (like petrochemicals) so fill up before coming if you want clean water. The trails were nice but the lake is a sad mud puddle. Very disappointing especially after being at Guadalupe River, Garner, Pendernelas Falls state parks. Not a fan of this place.

Not sure this is everyones cup of tea but we really enjoyed the hiking and biking. We also like the privacy of campsites in Oak Haven. Sites are short with poor cell coverage and no WiFi. But that is not why we camp.

Great Camping
We did the hike in tent site #64. It was a great camp site especially because we had no neighbors. #62 is better if it's full. Cost is $12 camp site plus $6 entry fee per person. These tent sites are a bit more wooded and slightly removed from the other sites. Hiking trails were fun, although not yet fully opened due to ongoing recovery from fires. I enjoyed biking on the scenic route to Bastrop park.

This park is a hidden gem in the Texas Parks and Wildlife park system. It has a beautiful fishing lake with canoe rentals. It is connected to the larger state park, Bastrop state park by an amazing 10 mile drive through the forest. There are rv sites, cabins and tent sites. The tent sites and screened in shelters have a view of the lake. Only 30 minutes east of Austin, it is well woth checking out.
