Very friendly staff. We chose a site not directly on the river to be in a more secluded spot. Site 11. We still could see the river, pelicans, herons etc. There are green jays, butter butts, wrens, quail, wood peckers etc. There’s a lot of truck traffic hauling boats down to pier. We enjoyed watching tug boats push barges down the river. There’s an observation tower and a hiking trail. Two fishing piers are lit at night. We saw nilgai on the preserve behind park and heard coyotes and owls at night. I had one bar of ATT which worked fine for me. Be sure to drive 35 min to the Laguna Atascosa Ocelot Preserve. Harlingen has a 100ft Iwo Jima statue of the flag raising. Showers are a little tight. There were several plant species in bloom. We had a level gravel site with a cement pad for picnic table. We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed the birds and river wildlife from our windshield. We did find it pricier than any other county park we’ve stayed at 30 for fhu
