Beautiful park, they are very protective because of past misuse and vandalism. A little overboard we arrived at 5pm, paid for camping and were told we had to leave the park (not just the campsite) by noon. Had to attend orientation. Didn’t get a chance to explore but it was beautiful. Spotty reception & only 1 shower in the women’s room. They said we got the last campsite but only 3 other people were at sites.

Shade / No Shade
We were in #1. The evening sun sets behind the "east" mountain/rock section of the park giving shade to all sites south of us sooner that are against the mountain/rock section. Quiet, hardly anyone around on a Thurs-Sat say. Great VZ 4G at the park entrance, spotty in the campground. No OTA. Warm showers.

Relaxing
Very nice and relaxing. But you better hurry, civilization is fast encroaching on this wonderful site. Houses, subdivisions and shooting ranges. As Don Henley of the Eagles once said in a song, "Call someplace paradise and kiss it goodbye."""""""

Guided tour of pictographs was amazing, although it involved some climbing that we hadn’t expected. Campsite was $18/night + $7/night/person. You must see a 15 minute video on your way in, but directions to it in another building were extremely confusing - we wandered around the park looking for it. We never were given a map of the park, so we did a lot of frustrating wandering. The front gate is closed and locked at 6 pm. There are other gates between areas you have to open, drive through, then close after yourself. These gates are just bars pivoting so they’re only to stop vehicles. You can only walk on the roads. You can’t walk outside the campground without a special permit. Even with a confirmed and paid reservation you must go to the park entrance and re-register every morning. Apparently they can’t use identical paperwork from day before. On our way out a ranger checked us out so others could be admitted- only 70 people are allowed in the park at any one time.
