Overcrowded Same Issues Noted By Others

Beautiful Area

The area around the campground is beautiful, but there are a few issues. As another reviewer noted, the sites are grouped into threes, which was fine for me since it wasn’t full, but I could see how it would be a problem during busy times. There are a LOT of ravens (?) around that are very loud and annoying to me, but my wife didn’t mind them. I DON’T like having to pay to dump tanks when I’m paying for camping; I’d rather they just add it to the camping fee. The road in (the mile or so from where the pavement ends to the campground, as well as the quarter mile uphill to the dump station) is TERRIBLE for a dually, like driving on a washboard. And the camp host when I was there was a bit of a jerk.

A Nice Spot

This is a nice location at about 7800 feet elevation. The campground is two loops: one with power and water and one with just dispersed water. Tables, fire rings and grills for all sites. This is an old facility and the sites are small. The powered sites are backin in blocks of 3 and the spacing was designed before slides and awnings were common. Tight!! The non-powered loop had more level sites, but they were also small. Pit toilets were mostly clean. Pay dump station is in Piñon Campground. Iffy 3G service. Quemado is 15 miles.
