Great Camp
Lightly used except on weekends. This year 2024, the water is not working, but water is available at Panchuela trailhead 4.4 miles away. There are no hosts during my stay, probably because no water. The hiking is very good in this entire canyon. Jack's Creek is a short hike downhill from the camp. There is a separate horse camp over at the trailhead. The road up from the town of Pecos is narrow and winding. The last 5 or 6 miles is challenging with a long trailer, and it's paved but rough.

Beautiful Scenery
Beautiful campground with a variety of sites from wooded to open. The two campground hosts were very helpful. There are two trail heads in the equestrian campground, which you could walk or drive to. Pit toilets, water available, no wood for sale but you can collect downed wood.

Virgin Voyage For My Class C
The Pecos in the Sangre de Christo mountains can't be beat for a relaxing end of summer excursion. I had just bought my used class c motor home and took it out for Labor Day weekend and loved every minute of it!! The cost was$10 per night. Bathrooms are available but I do not know of their condition. There is running water available and each spot has a table with fire ring. It was very busy and I was told that we snagged the last spot in the mountain which was not easy to find!! I like to camp by water but Jacks Creek does not offer a lake or river - the one drawback! But we were delighted to spend two nights so close to heaven! I recommend Jack's Creek and plan on going back!
