Fully Occupied
Great location with water and electric. Unfortunately we arrived and all sites were occupied. We visited with the camp host, asking for suggestions of other blm land we could stay on. The host graciously advised that we could use the parking area by the visitor ctr and said pay the fee and park. It was however, a night of terror with 40 mph winds from the East broadsiding us and we awoke to sleet & ice. We were in our 21 ft camper and of course survived. Great compassion for anyone in a tent that night, there were several

What A Cool Find
Came in planning to stay 3 nights. Enjoyed it so much we added 4 more nights. Loved the trail over the lava. Walked on the lava. Fun to put ourselves back when this was forming to try to picture what was going on then. To die for sunsets and sun rises. An hour drive to White Sands, which was cool, but 2-3 hours there is more than enough time. Half price with senior pass. $18 w/e, $12 w, $7 tents. Very windy! 4-5 bars of AT&T.

Stayed one night. Left payment at the kiosk. No host since it was during the week. We were kind of sad since it turned out to be a great geological interest, but the self guided trail has a lot of information. First sites along the ridge have electric and water. Great view of the valley from every angle and the mountain ranges in the distance. One of our favorite stops. Didn’t realize how big the lava flow was until we got here and looked around. Just a few others were camping. Would definitely stop again.

One night stay with travel trailer. Paved Site had electric, water, picnic table and trash can. Also on site is restrooms/showers and dump station. Dump station has 15.00 fee. Great campground if you like geology and history.

Great Place
I came here during the federal govt shutdown. The camp host was letting people camp. The bath and visitors center were closed. Everything else was clean. Large paved sites.
Fantastic place if you're into geology and a cool little park. Very unique, great .90 mile trail through the lava flow. Highly recommend for 2-3 nites.
The town of Carrizozo is dismal however. No grocery store or laundromat open when I was here.
