We wanted to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on a budget and so we went tent camping here in stead of getting a hotel.
Pros: nice hiking trails, playgrounds at the lake area and the lake concession stand also has camping necessities like ice. Lake was warm enough to swim in at the end of May. Nice picnic area near playground. The tent sites were well spaced with lots of trees.
Cons: some road noise from the highway was noticable but not too much of a problem for us. There were a few loud trucks and motorcycles at night. The Park rangers weren't very helpful and they didn't tell us the camp was locked at night or that we would need a code to get back in. Make sure to ask for it! Also showers were just fine but they post that they close the bathroom/showers from 6-7am for cleaning so don't expect to have to go during that time!
