I like camping at fairgrounds and this is one of the better ones. They don't take reservations and is first-come-first-served, which was great for us because we couldn't find any open spots at any state park over Labor Day weekend (or any weekend).
The park is nicely shaded and about 8 or so 30amp boxes, showers, and reasonably priced laundry (compared to town). There are no "sites" just drive over the grass to your site.
There is a dump station, and they claim there is water, but all I saw was a hose attached to the caretaker house and no signs. So fill-up before coming.
First night there was dirt track racing, but noise ended by 11pm. Near the start of the Mesabi trail.
I didn't see any staff at all for the 4 days there. Caretaker was not on site.
