Great Stay
Great stay, even with the spots being so close it was great. We have small kids so we started in am RV and enjoyed the beach and playgrounds..

Fun camground
The campground is set up on about 4 loops with the lower site numbers closer to the beach, playground in the middle. About 90% of the sites are sandy, very small amounts of grass. I find their water to gave an rotten egg taste, so I bring ours from home. About 50% of the sites are not level. The kids have a great time.

Tight but not bad
Stayed the last day of August, passing through. Narrow road through the campground make it tight for me to back my 30 ft bumper pull into my spot.

$56
Rec. Passport
Park OK, sandy lot, electric only, can fill water tank.
Charged recreation fee for both car and motor home, total $56 just to spend the night.
Michigan park fees have taken me out of staying in their state parks.

Great Location
We have been camping at Van Buren for almost 40 years and honestly, it really hasn't changed that much over the years. The campground is nice, although it really gets packed on summer weekends. The sites have electric, but no water. Potable water is available at the dump station. The bathhouses have unisex showers and they could really use an upgrade. Most sites are pretty large and mostly shaded. The ground is quite sandy, but you are near dunes and beach. The day use and beach is wonderful. The location is great if you want to explore South Haven or other SW MI harbor towns. With a few upgrades to the amenities, Van Buren could be 5 stars!

Site Map?
The MI DNR put to much irrelevant information on their sites. They don't have a site map?! How can I get the layout if there is nothing to look at?
Get rid of half of the irrelevant information.
Look at how everyone else does their campground websites and follow suit and you will get more visitors. Much more.
Your DNR web pages suck for all state parks.

Nice Campground
Stayed here August 8-11th. Had site #31 which was full shade and level. Plenty of room for our pop-up and car. Close to the restroom/shower house. The showers were always full, they need more! Beautiful trails and beach. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice Park
This park is shady and near a nice beach. Lot spacing is nice, lot 15 is level, 50A is good. Not enough shower capacity, but great fire pits. No water on sites but good water at station. Some kind of noisy plant nearby but not too bad, just a steady hum. Well patrolled by nice rangers, fairly clean.
