Run….don’t Walk
The park itself, I think, has a rather unkept look to go along with the Gitche Gumme theme. Large sites, most have 2 sewer outlets for those with front and back tanks. But the water is unusable! Way toooooo much iron in it! It smelled up the whole trailer with such a stench we had to open windows! The garbage bin was way overflowing and stunk, grass needed mowing. Cannot recommend especially for the exorbitant price.

Quirky
Didn’t plan ahead so found a spot at this park. More than I usually pay but it was ok. Staff was nice - accommodated us wanting a pull thru. Lots of big trees which is always a plus for me. Only stayed one night. I would have liked to stay longer and explore the park and beach but you know, time!

Dig deep in your pockets to stay here. Price is astronomically high!... Ouch!...Good luck to find laundry-trash-shower in camp! No map provided. Pot holes. Dump drainage hole was too high. Even no fire rings. He burned us once, but never again!!!

Great place. The reviews are way off. Yes it’s a rustic feeling however very private lots with full hook up. If you want to Glamp, this nay bit be your place. If you want to camp and chill well this place would be great. I was a little sketchy after reading the reviews. However just stayed there the last 4 days and planning on going back. Across the street from the lake. One thing that needs repair is the WiFi. If you have some work to do or a conference call to be on, you may have to go down the road to McDonalds or across the street and use your hot spot. Over all we loved it here.

NO FRILLS CAMPING
If you're looking for "resort camping", this is not your place {and good luck finding that in the UP of Michigan}...but if you enjoy peaceful camping, amongst the trees with plenty of space between campsites, then you'll embrace the rusticness of Gitche Gumee RV Park & the quirkiness of "Ranger Jeff". We have zero complaints about our stay or expectations of this campground...Jeff provided us exactly what we asked for when we booked; full hook ups that was long enough and wide enough for our 40' MH and Tow {55' total}. We loved having beach access to the lake {yes, it's somewhat of a steep dirt path down but doable for all ages we saw go up & down the hill}. We walked through the entire park & the only area that would need some TLC would be the bathhouse...if you're self contained, it's not even an issue to worry with, but they are dated and dingy. Jeff's family has lived in this area for decades & they have owned much land in this area...he's older & eccentric but harmless & kind.

Gitche Gumee Gotcha
Wilma, Philip and Lucy are total right about this place. Jeff is a rip off artist. Quotes me a price for electricity over the phone, total not true. No wifi, no cable so don’t believe what it says. Jeff says they haven’t had cable in 15 years.
He needs to invest in a tractor, because the roads in the camp ground need grading desperately. Mud holes everywhere.. it didn’t help that the week I stayed (end of Sept. 2020) it rain almost everyday.
My suggestion is find a different camp ground.

Glad We Only Stayed One Night
In my opinion this place is: Overpriced. The showers are terrible with lots of bugs. The website shows lots of nice stuff. It's all a facade. Everything like the game room is closed. The pictures on the website show stairs down to the beach. There are no stairs. Instead, you have to scale down a cliff to get to the beach and back up again when you're done. The website is a sham.

We Enjoyed Our 8 Night Stay
Lots of trees give more separation from other sites than many other campgrounds we've stayed.
Our pull through site provided abundant privacy as our entry door faced the woods with no other campers in view.
A short walk to Lake Superior with a miles long sandy beach in either direction is a bonus.
20 cents per kw/hr upcharge for electricity used and high iron content in the water were the only negatives of our stay. Make sure you have a new water filter ready before you hook up.
The owner Jeff Mills was kind and accommodating to our needs.
We had no need to use the bathrooms or showers so I can't speak to the quality (or lack of) that other campers have mentioned in other reviews.

The guy was very nice we had a good campsite but the showers and bathrooms were very dated the lights needed to be replaced in the showers . thought it was a bit pricey for what the park had to offer.

A Real Dump
This guy is, for lack of better words, a creep as well as a crook and the campground, though having great potential, is a dump. The shower walls are disgusting, covered with mold. The bathrooms are dimly lit, because there are broken (not just burned out) light bulbs. While I was there the local board of health was examining the campground and the inspector told me it was the result of what he described as "an unending string of complaints." I also observed him screaming at another camper because she complained about the cleanliness of the bathrooms. And, it is overpriced for the area. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to go. This place should be shut down.

Owner is pretty cool guy, very accommodating. Several large sites, got the RV parked with trailor unloaded jeep and still had room to park ! All sites and roads are sand/gravel but drains fast. Lots of projects in the works, but didn't effect campers.

Rustic
Great quiet RV Park , dirt roads gravel sites, full hook ups except cable, great view of Lake Superior on sites 31 - 37. Pull thrus , tenting. Close to snowmobile trails, casino, golf, beach across the street.
