We live in the Destin area and have camped all over the state. This is one of the best state parks.

Beautiful beach and maritime forest

Henderson has about a mile of beach and is wedged between the beach and US-98. Gravel sites are level and oriented so that the ample vegetation between sites allows for considerable privacy. I’m guessing that the beautiful maritime forest surrounding sites reflects what the entire area looked like before development of the the nearby communities. Access to the beach is over a paved path through a low forest and boardwalk over dunes. All sites are E/W. Easy access to dump station. Bathhouses are well maintained and very clean; no paper towels though. The park is in the city of Destin near Elgin Air Force base, so expect some noise.

One of our favorite parks. Spacious sites surrounded by foliage for privacy. Hosts are very helpful. Wonderful paved path to the beach.

Beautiful But Too Noisy!!!

This is a beautiful small campground with a wonderful beach, but the noise drove us crazy! Highway noise, aircraft noise - especially the USAF fighter jets from the nearby military base - construction noise during the day from a nearby condo development, and -worst of all - obnoxious loud vibrating music on Friday and Saturday nights from a nearby bar. The campground is just outside Destin, which is a tacky tourist trap town, so it's hard to get away from the city noise. If you want peace and quiet, forget this campground and opt instead for Topsail Hill State Park, 20 miles east, which also offers the benefit of sewer hookups.

My Absolute Favorite Campground

Even though it’s my fav campground, it still lacks sewage hook-ups. So only a 4 stars! But we deal with it. Have been coming here every summer for 15+ years. Location is it’s brightest star. Second star is that the campground has their own private beach in the middle of Destin. And this is huge since this town becomes packed June-August. It’s a hidden gem. Super clean. Bath houses are spotless.

Nice Park

Well kept, private and full amenities. Not a bad walk to the beach. Staff seems to be pleasant 100% of the time !

Note: because of road work on 92, there is no sign for the State Park at the turn at Henderson Beach as of August 2019.

Beautiful State Park

We only stayed a couple of nights as we were passing through the area, but we spent all day on the beach which has to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The sites were big spacious lots of vegetation between the campsites. The bath house was clean and fresh. They had a little laundry area also. The boardwalk to the beach made the walk easy and while it might have been a little long oh, it was still worth it when you got to the end.

We’ll Be Back

We stayed in site #12 for 6 nights mid-December. It was a pull through site with more than enough room for our pop-up. The sites are very private due to the dense vegetation between them. The bath houses were very clean, ladies side had 2 large shower stalls and 3 toilets and sinks. There were also 2 separate ADA shower/restrooms at the bath house. The walk to the beautiful white sand beach is like a nature trail over the dunes. The park staff were all very friendly, as was the campground host. WiFi was available, but could be a little spotty. All in all, a beautiful campground in a fantastic location.

Destin beaches are heavenly with white powder shores and crystal seas. The campsites are clean and mostly level. Bathroom was clean. Beach access is a bit of a walk but worth it. Don't stay a minute over 1pm though because the "volunteer" patrols watch like hawks. The guy drove past my site 3 times I counted from 8-10am and then after we returned from the beach at least another 2 times. Then 1:01pm as we were unhooking the water hose he pulled up to "help" us vacate. Mind you the rv engine was already running. I don't like to feel rushed on vacation especially if I'm merely 1 minute past the hour. I would've given it 5 stars but this guy ruined it.

Love It

This park is great! Some sites are VERY spacious and some pull throughs are a tight turn, however, the beach makes up for all of it. BEAUTIFUL and not crowded because of the campground access. It’s about a ¼ mile walk from bathroom to beach on paved and decking. Bathhouses are very clean, nice, and air conditioned. Probably the best bathhouses I’ve seen in a very long time. We’re on site 31 which is a typical pull through. We have a 35’ trailer and it goes from end to end of the site. 30amp breaker needed replaced and park staff was quick to do so. Not a lot of shade for whole park as trees are not that tall but every site is private as brush is thick and sites are not on top of each other. Over all, I would definitely come back, i would just site shop a little more to get a bigger site.

Lots of Privacy

This is our third stay at this park — twice before in 34-ft class A, this time i a 26-ft class C. Concrete and gravel sites are quite level. There are no sewer hookups, but access to the dump site is very convenient. Staff and hosts are very pleasant and accommodating. Great beach access.

Great private spaces, bike riding, a huge beach, and every store u can imagine within 2 miles. Main town of Destin just a few miles away

One Of Our Favorites

Beautiful, well kept state park. Sites provide privacy, restrooms very clean and well maintained. Nice walking trails with handicap in mind. Boardwalk to the beach. We visit often.

This was our maiden voyage in our motor home with our grandchildren. We stopped at other parks but this was our favorite. It was clean, camp sites were spaced far enough apart that we had plenty of privacy. The beach was an easy walk from the campsite. We will return.

First Campsite

My wife and I made this our first stop on our maiden voyage with our new Airstream. This is a great campsite. The faculties are clean, the campsites are groomed between visitors, and you have a semi secluded section of beautiful beach in the center of Destin. To cap it off there is a Super Walmart across the road! Loved it!
