Great Location With View Of Dunes
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Sites are basic & close but have what you need. Facilities are clean. Proximity to park is ideal. Restaurant was closed for the season. Gas & groceries where you check in. Besides going to dunes I highly recommend the hike to Zapata Falls. The 4-mile road to the trailhead is treacherous but worth it! Note: this is the desert & there are cactuses. Stay on paths & you won't get pricked.

Stay Else Where
If you can stay somewhere else. Over priced gravel lot. Laundry facilities in-op, still paid same rate. Thorny, painful weeds all around.”GOAT HEADS”. All around the generic play ground, just everywhere. Dog got them in her paws. Toddler got stuck. They constantly where tracked in to the trailer. Very painful experience to say the least. The gravel road leading up to camp spot is a mess. They only had one dumpster that was a few hundred yards away from camp.

We almost didn't stay here based on the one bad review but I'm so glad we did. We have a small trailer so space was not an issue. The bathrooms were modern & clean. The view to the sand dunes was a bonus. Don't know if the cafe is connected but the food there was good & the pie to die for. Boards & sleds to rent was right there. We stayed 3 days instead of 2.

Our 31ft travel trailer was a tight fit. Slide outs were over the neighbors spot with 5ft on opposite side. The convenience of being just outside the NP with full hookups is worth it though, other campgrounds were 30+min away. Kids enjoyed the small playhouse and swings.

Over Priced Parking Lot
We wanted to visit the Great Sand Dunes as part of our free range life. We are a full-time RV family and have stayed in a wide variety of parks. This one has, by far, been the worst. Unfortunately our 42 ft fifth wheel does not fit in the National Park and there are no other options in close proximity. The rocky road leading up to the RV sites is not maintained well, the sites are very close together and the sites are not well marked. The rate was quoted at $38 a night, but they charged us an extra $2.50 per person per day (over 2 people). So, our rate was $45.50 a night because we have 3 small kids! The shower/laundry building is 2 story and the bottom story is a private residence - seemed very odd. Unfortunately, there aren't really any other options nearby and this place knows it. There is no incentive for them to have nicer facilities.
