Washboard Road, Campground Nice
After 8 miles of (mostly hard-packed) dirt roads with terrible washboards, I was happy to see a very nice, well-layed out campground. Road is wide until it nears the campground, then narrows and gets a little sandy but was safe to access. Vault toilets, nonpotable water, pretty views, shade structures over picnic tables, fire rings, bbq grills, trash cans, trail. Drove a 25' class C and saw a big class A, 5th wheel, and random other campers on a weekend. Quiet, respectful groups. Clean facilities, road inside the campground is in great condition. Worth the terrible road in, which is far enough away from run-down Barstow. $6/nt ($3 w pass). Wouldnt advise during rain, as there are lots of washes and sandy spots along the road. Also, equestrian group campground nearby, which looked very nice.

i've returned here several times.
sometimes people come up into the campgrounds, park at a camp site, and play loud music without actually camping or paying for the site. the loud music is annoying, especially when there are more than one site playing different cacaphonies.
once i came here and someone was lighting glass pipes in their car at the campsite and they then got out and used a firearm repeatedly while in the campground.

Amazing Conundrum
Washboard ingress
Wonderful formations
Striatal upheavel, flow, erosion, and even some imprint fossils.
Interesting flora and fauna observed here.
Shade structures over table and rings available and paved spurs.
The playground structures seemed odd; so much metal in the hot desert sun.

Beautiful Rock Formations
At the turn off onto the dirt road it said Road closed. We continued backer only to find out the rainbow basin Quest shut down. How Canyon Campground however is open. Abort the roads are washed boarded but passable by any know anyone. They have water and they have new trash containers. Restrooms are clean nice quiet nights. Stars are beautiful.

BEAUTIFUL
Pros: Gorgeous area with large Joshua Trees in a colorful basin (The Rainbow Basin). Campground is very well designed with pit toilets, playgrounds. Large sites. I'm camped along a rugged natural canyon and this place is fascinating. $6/night.
Cons: The long gravel road is very bad washboard. Drove 5-10 mph and water was flying out of my half full water bottle. No tap water yet, sign says the project will be complete the end of 2018, its 2/7/19 and no water.
I give it 4.5 stars as is, 5 if there was water.

No Water
Google said water. When I went to BLM field office, they said they had water problems but had a single tap for the cg. Got there and absolutely no water.
Besides that, it is a beautiful campground.
